Assignment #1: Diptych
Diptych:
A diptych is two separate objects, typically artwork, which are attached by a hinge to form a finalized work. Historically, they have been used for altarpieces and for art preservation. Today, diptychs can also be digital. Digital diptychs consist of two photographs side by side, positioned as if they are hinged together.
The two pieces of the diptych are separate, but when paired together, form a more detailed composition, and have the ability to add depth, meaning, and/or contrast to the work as a whole.
Below are six digital diptychs I have created using photos that I have taken.
- Here Comes the Sun
- Thanksgiving Memories 2021
Description: The passing of a mere moment. This diptych showcases and contrasts the moment before the sun rose over the Canadian Rockies, and moment as it climbed over the mountains - marking the start of a new day.

Description: On the left is a portrait of myself and my boyfriend. The photo on the right offers a more close-up perspective than the photo on the left. The flowers are pictured in both photos, with the photo on the right side providing more detail. The elements present in the photo on the right, along with the photo of us on the left, combine to form more insight into the mood and physical characteristics of our location - helping to preserve details of my memories.
- Forest Floor - Nordic Trails
- Plant Perspective: Bottom-Top
Description: Contrasting views of the plant stems (left) vs the plant leaves (right). Taken from the ground (left), and from the top of the plant (right)
